La Gaia Ibiza

La Gaia by Oscar Molina is probably the best restaurant in Ibiza right now.

We went to La Gaia for our last night in Ibiza and we were very happy to do so. The restaurant is in the five stars hotel, Ibiza Gran Hotel.

La Gaia is on the ground floor of the Ibiza Gran Hotel, it’s elegantly designed, the atmosphere is serene and chic. When we arrived at the hotel, the doorman welcomed us warmly and friendly guided us to the restaurant. From here, our host, Marta asked us to be patient before inviting us to taste the appetizers concocted by the chef's assistant.

The series of appetizers were originals, fun, very delicate and tasty, specially the “Pickled tomato & caviar” and the “Scarlet shrimp & herbal liquor foam”.

After the appetizers, our head waiter leaded us to our table which was a little bit uncomfortable because the table itself is quite high compared to our seats. For us, this was a little faux pas that we did not fail to mention to Oscar Molina at the end of our meal.

For our dinner we chose the classic menu named Tanit (A goddess who symbolizes Ibiza). The “Main Events” came with nine courses. From the “Ramen broth” to the “Salt-baked local lamb” each course was flavorful, visually beautiful, and perfectly balanced in terms of portions and ingredients.

Two dishes standout for us were the “Black rice” and the “Salt-baked local lamb”, these dishes were superbly prepared and cooked, it was a delight!

The desserts, the "Ibizan Meadow" and "Hibiscus chocolate" were refreshing and unusual, and to conclude wonderfully our dinner, a sweet unboxing with six little delights.

The wine list at La Gaia was amazing, eclectic, well thought and sources. But it was the sommelier, Vassilli who impressed us the most with his advice and explanation and in French, s’il vous plait.

As we cannot drink much alcohol anymore, we asked him to advise us a glass of red wine to accompany the “Salt-baked local lamb”. He recommended us to drink one glass of the very best Spanish wine and the very best was a glass of Vega-Sicilia, Valbuena 5° 2015. It was a simply divine!

The service by a young tandem was very nice and efficient.

La Gaia is a must destination for all gourmet travelers who wish to discover the fantastic cooking of Oscar Molina. The chef fully deserves his Michelin star, and he is not very far from the second star according to our humble opinion.
